It’s almost 2025, and the sportsbook industry is more saturated than ever. Despite this, major brands like Bet365, DraftKings, and FanDuel continue to dominate the landscape. These giants lead in market share, product innovation, and betting opportunities, creating stiff competition for smaller operators striving for a piece of the pie. One way sportsbooks can stand out is by offering real-time betting features like HotPicks. These instant odds updates, powered by FlowsWave, can significantly boost engagement by bringing the most exciting bets directly to users’ attention.
Flows’ platform and product suite are specifically designed to tackle industry challenges, and our latest product, FlowsWave, makes it even easier for sportsbooks to deliver HotPicks in real-time, driving interaction and keeping bettors engaged with personalised betting options.
The problem with Sportsbook odds navigation and how HotPicks solves It
Whilst it may be a generalisation the layouts for sportsbook odds tend to be quite simple from a UI perspective however, they are still confusing to navigate given the sheer volume of available markets. The time spent trying to navigate to the correct part of the website to place a desired bet, could cost bettors the opportunity to capitalise on more favourable odds and subsequently deter them from placing a bet altogether. Especially if bettors are particularly interested in a market that sees its odds regularly changing due to real-time events.
The Solution – bringing real-time HotPicks to the bettor’s fingertips
Sportsbooks can easily build solutions that will bring the hottest odds, or HotPicks, straight to their punter’s fingertips using Flows technology and their existing APIs. A connection between the sportsbook front-end, odds feed, and data feed would need to be established initially. Whereby the real-time events from the data feed are accordingly mapped up to odds feeds. If a significant match event results in an odds shift then a FlowsWave pop-up is triggered to the front-end ensuring no one misses the HotPicks and the player propensity to bet sees a significant uplift. To ensure bettors have the option to consent to receiving HotPicks, users can click a button to opt-in. HotPicks could then be enabled for specific leagues, e.g. NFL, Premier League, NBA or for specific tournament finals e.g. Champions League Final, Superbowl, Wimbledon. Or even individual players e.g. Carlos Alcaraz, Rory McIlroy, Tyson Fury.
How it works – customising HotPicks with FlowsWave
- FlowsWave Customisation – Using our pop-up technology clients can design their own branded HotPicks reminders which can include real-time content taken directly from the API as FlowsWave supports the usage of variables. For example: parameters could include Name of Player, Action Type, Market Name, Odds.
- Designing the Triggers – The HotPicks flow needs a starting point. Once the event or match data APIs are connected we can determine which events trigger the HotPicks Pop-Up. These triggering events will likely be ones that have a direct effect on odds recalculations. For example: goals, corners, or cards in football.
- Mapping the Odds – Using the Flows platform, design rule-based data flows that tell the system exactly what to display based on the event trigger. If a goal is scored, extract the key data from the event API. For example: Action Type – Goal, Player – Noni Madueke, Team – Chelsea. Design a Flow that maps the key data from the API with relevant odds to display in the format Market Name, Available Odds. For example: Noni Madueke to Score Again (3/1), Chelsea to Win (5/2), Both Teams to Score (1/7).
- Connect the BetSlip – Using Flows create logic that dictates that the betslip immediately launches displaying the selected bet when one of the HotPicks odds is clicked on via FlowsWave. This solution helps to create a quicker and more dynamic way for your loyal audience to place bets in real-time without having to do more than click a simple button.
- Consent is Key – Design another Flow that ensures bettors consent has been gathered before triggering any HotPicks. As soon as the Flows system receives confirmation that a user has logged in, and has opted-in for HotPicks, the system will then be on standby to trigger FlowsWave powered HotPicks as and when key event data from the API starts coming in. It’s as simple as that!
